Iwo-Born Intellectual Motivates With Short Poem Titled Ours Is Our Burden
Image from |
Social ills has a mother; poverty
Improper upbringing fathers it
It gives birth to insecurity, lawlessness, impunity et al
Many are the poverty-driven criminals
Immeasurable are their crimes
Able bodied men resorts to vices
They are not engaged with legits
Rather, they embraces the illicits
What more, the legit surfaces not
They are the internet 'gangsters'
They are the sea pirates
Oil bunkerering is one of their businesses
Another 'lucrative' business of theirs is kidnapping
Armed robbery at the front burner
The political evil-machines are nobody but them
Femalities among them are the 'runs girls'
'Olosho' is one of their numerous nomenclatures
In their words, they use what they have to get what they want
Like the coloured bulbs, they are always seen in brothels
They also have the road sides as their office
They are in classes; high class, middle class and the lower class
A million dollar question arises, who is to blame?
The gods?
Nah! We are the architect of our own misfortune
When a wheat farm is left unattended to, it lies fallow
Weed outgrows the wheat, the pests becomes cohabitants
Wheat farms becomes a Nat Geo Wild of sort
The Government cares not
They create poverty where there was none
They personalize our common wealth
No jobs, no food, no light, no fuel, no money. Alas! No life
They are preoccupied with their own escapades
They ward off their duties
They effaces dividends of democracy
They put us in wark
They desecrates the way of life
They punishes us undeservedly
Oh! We deserves it
Because we keep voting them in
The parents loses grip
They leave their responsibilities unattended to
Poverty assumes the driving seat of their minds
Children becomes morally derailed
Lawlessness becomes a trend
Education is in shambles
Who will then rescue us?
Heaven?
Heaven helps those who help themselves
'Omo to ba s'ipa n'iya re n gbe'. So says Yoruba adage
We have to take bold steps ourselves
The elders, the youths, the womenfolks, Religious institutions
Let us all rise
Rise! Rise!! Rise!!! and take up the challenge
OURS IS OUR BURDEN
