The Real Story Of What Happened Between FASU President And Ayedire South LG Chairman, Hon Femi Idowu
It has been reported by the Federation Of Ayedire Student Union (FASU) president, Com, Rabiu Saheed Ayomide on different online fora on how he was allegedly assaulted by the Ayedire South LG Chairman, Hon Femi Idowu.
Iwocitygist gathered information from reliable sources and was able to come out with facts about the whole scenario between both parties.
The genesis of the whole incident started when the honorable FASU President, Com, Rabiu Saheed Ayomide on behalf of the union requested for financial help from the Chairman, Hon Femi Idowu.
Hon Idowu who is known for his philanthropist act on Student Unionism in consequent regime did not ignore the request of the FASU president but requested for something before his wish could be granted.
Ou politicians have ways of executing their projects, Hon. Idowu urged the FASU President to bring forth an official letter which carries the name of the union requesting for the fund before processing the payment of the fund.
In Chairman statement, He said:
I am a politician who keep records, I do not want to have any issue when I finish my tenure, that is why I document every action I take while in government.Comrade Rabiu for reasons best known to him did not take any step in getting the official letter to the Chairman, an according to reports, subsequent calls from the President of the Union did not change the mind of the Chairman. "The letter must be brought".
As the God we have his way, they reached a confirmation to meet on a particular day, but the chairman was reportedly going into the office on this fateful Monday.
On getting there, he allegedly didn't notice certain papers posted on the walls of the building but went straight to the office where he was trying to process the money.
According to an insider that claims anonymous, the Chairman has ordered them to secure a particular amount for the FASU president who is coming on Friday, although Friday was their initial agreement, the Chairman wants it processed on Wednesday since he felt he would receive the official letter from the President.
While leaving, the Chairman eventually noticed the papers pasted on the building and carefully glanced through, alas what he saw was an eyesore, a derogatory press release proclaiming unprintable names for the Chairman.
Now Furious, the Chairman went back to ask the workers who did it, and luckily, the President was still outside pasting the papers when the Chairman went to meet him there.
In a sane unionism, Yoruba tradition and fairness to the stool of Local Government authority, the FASU president should have stopped and left the area, even though he would come back to finish what he was doing, Comrade Saheed continued pasting the paper in the presence of the chairman which further angered him.
The manner of insolence rekindled the angered spirit and he admitted slapping the FASU president and threatened to arrest him immediately if not for the intervention of people present.
According to an eye witness, the viral report saying the Chairman attacked him with thugs or sorts is untrue. There were no external bodies whether harmed or not and the report is a product of propaganda against the office of the Chairman.
Slapping the Honorable President of a Student Union for whatever reason is an abuse of power and wrong in all ramifications which prompted the president to take legal action through the office of the NAOSS President, Comr. Oderinwale Elisha MINISTER.
The National Association of Osun State (NAOSS) is the apex body of all Student Unionism in the state and the FASU faction did the right thing by going through the apex body in search for justice.
According to the Chairman, Hon Femi Idowu, he stated he got a call from the Commissioner of Police in the state capital to come with immediate alacrity and as a law-abiding citizen, he went for the call of the government.
The NAOSS on behalf of FASU had reported the incident to the Police in the capital city of the state and threatened to take necessary further steps to demand justice.
In the statement written, the FASU President wrote against the Chairman was that he had never for once answer the call of the student as it is not the first time of ignoring them.
The Chairman while coming to honor the Police invitation had carried along with his file where he proved how he had supported the previous Students' Union administrations financially, showing the letter of financial request they wrote also, which he was demanding from the current President and he refused.
It is a normal routine for any students' association that needs financial assistance to come with a documented paper for posterity and record sake, why is the president not following this routine, the Chairman queried.
The Commissioner for Police took time to be patient and hear stories from both parties and after the hearing, the following judgment was passed by the CP.
- That is wrong for the chairman to slap the President regardless of any of thing he might have done, hence the President demands an apology for that.
- That to print and allege the chairman of neglecting Student's Unionism since he resumed office is a defamation of character even after all these proofs he carried in the file.
- That it is totally unacceptable and unruly for the FASU President to be pasting derogatory press release against the chairman even in his presence, hence also deserve an apology.
The judgment stands in favor of the Chairman, according to the Police CP but admitted the only mistake he did was slapping him which he had apologized immediately.
But ordered the FASU President to write an official apology letter as each of the reports by both parties showed the Chairman did not in any way go wrong.
There is a particular Press Release By the office of the NAOSS President which says:
This report is false in its entirety and the Police CP did not in any way order the Chairman for an apology letter nor was the chairman pleading for any court case not to hold. After hearing from affected individuals and Hon. Femi did not deny the assult and allegation levied against him, although the said chairman has been pleading and begging since yesterday that the issue should be settled amicably. The commissioner of Police then ordered that Hon. Femi Idowu should write an open apology letter and should be sued, charged to court and then handed legally.Unfortunately the dishonoured hon. Femi Idwou bursted in tears and cried while begging both the president of Federation of Ayedire Students Union and police officers in charge.Truly, if we fight, we might win and if we keep silent, then we have lost already. The NAOSS national President in his usual kind manners and gesture pleaded to the commissioner of police not to charge Hon. Femi to court because the case has reached Mr. Governor himself.
Hon Femi Idowu later accepted to let go of the matter admitting to the fact that he was once a student in the spirit of unionism and further appreciated the Police intervention in the case.
